Grants and awards

Artsweek projects are funded by the IU President's office and administered through the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR). Each year, a call for proposals is issued by OVPR to IU Bloomington faculty and local artists. Proposals, along with bios, reviews, and other information, are submitted for consideration.

Priorities are given to applications that offer new works of art, presentations, important (local or visiting) artists that would otherwise not be available, and projects that fit the theme.

  • Maximum amount of an ArtsWeek grant is $2,500.
  • ArtsWeek is coordinated by Sherry Knighton-Schwandt, sks[at]indiana.edu.

ArtsWeek will offer a special new award during 2010: the Anya Peterson Royce ArtsWeek Showcase Award. This award was created to highlight an ArtsWeek event that reflects Royce's longtime scholarly interests in the performing arts.

The showcase award will be given to an ArtsWeek project in dance, music, or performance art that especially strives toward Royce's ideal of artistry. The award recipient(s) will be chosen from events submitted through the existing ArtsWeek grants process. ArtsWeek Coordinator Sherry Knighton-Schwandt and others will select a specific event from among the submitted projects.

2010 grant deadline extended to September

The 2010 grant deadline has been extended to September 1, 2009. The deadline was changed from July to September to encourage more artists to submit proposals for funding.

"Moving the deadline will allow the steering committee to reach out to a wider group of local and regional artists to promote awareness of the funding and of ArtsWeek itself," said Coordinator Sherry Knighton-Schwandt.

In addition to posting information through community news outlets and arts organizations, the committee is sending out grant information though an email newsletter. [ click here to subscribe to the ArtsWeek grants and funding news ]
